Type Locality and Naming

It was named by Wang Aimin in 1975. The naming locality is situated to the north of the Kapushaliang River northwest of the Baicheng County Town, Xinjiang. Upward succession of Yageliemu Fm, Shushanhe Fm and Baxigai Fm. The group is characterized regionally by a remarkable triplicity in subdivision, yet with an obscure triplicity in the western part of the region.

Lithology and Thickness

Composed of purple sandy conglomerate horizon, brown-red mudstone, variegated banded horizon and yellow-brown sandstone, with a thickness of 900-1200 m, with a maximum thickness of 1344.2 m being seen in the area of the Kapushaliang River, and with the minimum thickness of only 32 m being seen in the area of Kuche-Baicheng. Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It is in a conformable contact with the overlying Late Cretaceous Bashkichick Fm (Bashiqike Fm)

Upper contact

It overlies disconformably or unconformably onto the Kalazha Fm (Jurassic)

Regional extent

The group is distributed in many anticlines (such as Kumugelem, Bashkichick, Iychiklick and Turgeming anticlines) and northern monocline belt situated in between the Kyzylnur and Talak Rivers. Equivalent to the lower and middle Kezilesu Gr in westernmost Tarim Basin (Cret column 3).

Fossils

The middle and upper parts (the Shushanhe Fm and Baxigai Fm) of the particular group yield Ostracoda fossils as represented by Darwinula tiliformensis, Damonella kapushalingensis, Mongolianella palmosa and Rhinocypria echinata; and fish fossils as represented by Lepidotes unguialatus.
